Jesus - The I Am
What does Jesus say about Himself?
Jesus is not only the Messiah of the New Testament, but He is also the God of the Old Testament. He is the second person of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We look back 3,400 years ago to the Exodus of Israel out of Egypt.
The Jewish nation was enslaved for hundreds of years under the control of the Egyptians. They worked in mud pits all day long, making bricks for the cities and for the glory of Pharaoh.
God used Moses to deliver the children of Israel out of this Egyptian bondage.God appeared to Moses on a mountain.
I AM
Old Testament 1500 B.C.
Exodus 3:6
And he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
Exodus 3:13-15
Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me,
‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”
And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’
When Moses spoke with God at Horeb, the mountain of God, he was encountering Jesus.
We now move forward 1,400 years to the time of Jesus and His ministry here on earth. Jesus proved His deity by the miracles that He performed for the common Jewish people. Also witnessing these miraculous works were the Scribes, Sadducees, and Pharisees. These three groups were leaders of the Jewish people, both religiously and politically.
They were calling Jesus a demon. They were looking for ways to kill him.
Jesus was condemning them for their hypocrisy and wickedness.

As they were falsely accusing Jesus and condemning Him,
Jesus ends His declaration of truth with one proclamation:
I AM

Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.
This is clearly a reference to 1,400 years earlier when God (Jesus) spoke this to Moses from the burning bush at Horeb, the mountain of God.
What is I AM?
He is Transcendent.
Not a Created Being. Existing throughout all Eternity.
Never did He not exist.
He relies on nothing for His existence.
Creator of All Things Physical and Spiritual.
He is over all the Physical
Colossians 1:17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.
From every subatomic particle making up the human cell, to the outermost galaxy, all things are held together by the eternal power of Jesus Christ. All matter and energy, seen and unseen, is held together by His infinite strength. Every heartbeat we take, every pumping of every drop of blood through our arteries is under the direct control of Jesus Christ. Every massive star that collapses and then explodes into a supernova, a million galaxies away, is under the control of Christ.
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. Hebrews 1:3
He is over the Spiritual realm
The unseen world is under the control of Jesus Christ. Demons (fallen angels) and Holy Angels are under His dominion. His Throne is in Heaven, at the right hand of God the Father. His Heavenly Throne is over all creation. And Heaven is the future home of all true believers, those who have died in Him. And He created Hell, the eternal place of punishment for Satan and the demons who rebelled against God. Hell is also for all those who reject the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Those who have rejected His work-His death, burial, and resurrection.
Matthew 25:41 Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
Colossians 1:16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.
He is the Beginning and the End and He is coming back.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1:8
Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

Past, Present and Future
He is Jesus.
He is the Son of God.
He is the I AM.
