Something from Nothing
Secular Science's Great Faith
I believe in science and all that science reveals to us based on its observations. I believe that science helps our world to advance greatly. I also believe in God. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I cannot prove to a secular scientist that God exists without looking at creation and the Bible. And when you look at the Bible's historical accounts, the Old Testament prophecies fulfilled, archaeology, and ancient manuscripts which agree with the New Testament, it is hard to view the Bible as myth. Yes, I have faith that the Bible is the infallible and inerrant Word of God. I have faith that the historical person of Jesus Christ was God incarnate.
Interestingly enough, the secular scientist appears to have a great faith. A faith to believe that a single cell, though vastly complex, more complex than any super computer, was created spontaneously - randomly.
The impossible in basic terms: A house could never become a house without a designer. All the trees and other materials necessary for building a house could sit for 500 million years and they would never become a house. The cell is vastly more complex than a house, vastly more complex than anything man has ever built, yet secular science believes that the cell somehow came into being, randomly, on its own. To believe that molecules, which had no propensity to produce life, and without the biochemical compounds to form life, had formed life. Biochemical compounds are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. They are necessary for life.
Faith and Assumption
A faith in the Big Bang that theorizes the energy/matter/space that exploded (singularity) was thousands of times smaller than a pinhead. Faith to believe this pinhead exploded 13.7 billion years ago and out of it came our vast universe containing billions of galaxies. Laws of thermodynamics exist that define energy and matter, but before the "Big Bang" secular science cannot explain how energy and matter came into existence. This is faith. This is assumption.
The Great Faith
Can something come from nothing on its own - naturally? Can matter, energy, gravity or whatever it may be, come out of nothingness based on the properties and attributes of nothingness, naturally? For the most primary thing, the beginning of it all, to naturally come into being, it must exist and not exist simultaneously. To believe that something comes from nothing, without an external force is faith, not science. And if secular science says that instead of energy and matter, something else is the primary cause of existence, the natural beginning, then we must ask, how did that new "thing" come into being? Regardless of what secular science may introduce as the beginning, the fundamental question remains: Could something create itself from nothingness? Logic says "no." Common sense says "no." Secular science will never be able to solve that problem. And to say that it is not just one natural force causing creation, but multiple forces, then secular science's problem just becomes even more impossible to solve. To sum it all up, in the natural sense: Ex Nihilo Nihil Fit (Out of Nothing, Nothing Comes.)
Genesis gives us the historical account - someone created all things supernaturally - "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth..." So why can't intelligent design be discussed in the public schools, especially since secular science’s view of how the universe and life came to be is, may we say, faith based?
Inertia: A property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force.
